Corruption is better for raw damage, but it's relatively hard to accumulate on some enemies and bosses, and it relies on sentience charge if you want to get the most out of it. Purity will feel more consistent, is easier to build, does more ki damage and can be accessed through the magic skill tree.

Other ones I have in use with purity are Royal Tonfas and Martial Artist's Tonfas, which have melee attack ki consumption and active skill consumption as locked stats. I use izanagi susano build too with spear/tonfa. The only locked purity effect tonfa is the pagoda tonfa with the damage vs yokai.
