Feb 23, 2021 · Find the convertible top motor, where there are markings for “min” and “max” on the fuel reservoir. Fill the reservoir, and see if it fixes the issue. Fluid leaks on lift cylinders can also cause some trouble. Inspect all the cylinders. Leaks are quite obvious, and you can often see the drips on the floor of the trunk. I assume the hydraulic motor times out and stops by itself and the dash says top malfunction. The only way to check the lines would be to remove the suspect lines and blow them out. An alternative would be to simply replace them. You would need to top off the pump reservoir with the correct type fluid though. These pumps don't like anything else.The power top control module will prevent the top from lowering when it gets cold but it will still let the top close. Eventually if it gets even colder it won't allow closing either. If your outside temp display is massively wrong or non-functional it could give the symptoms you have. I doubt that's it though.
