I go to levels and farm midas trees. The red chests that you get from merging apples open free there so you can get more and more trees, and a whole army of ducks to farm them for even more apples. You could either start from scratch each time, or pick a level with midas trees. And lots of open space, and keep an ongoing farm that you come back to.
