M1 Garand: Loose front handguard. 11-28-2014, 05:47 PM. I believe that my front handguard is loose because the gas port isn't able to seat as tight as needed against it. The issue is not the handguard or the ferrule as both have been replaced without improvement. If I push down on the gas cylinder, everthing is nice and tight.

There's a very tiny Arl. Ord Arlington, Va import stamp on the right side of the barrel so it must have been imported with that barrel. The receiver was made in November of 1942. Having lived in "ground zero" of the Blue Sky and Arl. Ord. M1 Garand and M1 Carbine era this one seems a bit better than average as far as overall condition.
